MUSIC | FALL 2017 PLAYLIST

Enter Shikari - The Revolt Of The Atoms

After months of mastering the art of teasing, Enter Shikari finally released their new album "The Spark". It is clearly a new beginning for the band who left behind its screamo/electronica vibe to go towards something more pop but not mainstream pop, more like 80s pop. It sounds like Depeche Mode had some weird baby with . Lyrically, Rou Reynolds is still there to put us in a revolutionary mood, to feel empowered in changing the world (I mean fucking listen to "Take My Country Back" and tell me you're not ready to fuck shit up!). I finally got to see them live in early December, I was front row, determined to make eye contact with the members of the band who helped me go through very tough times ("Undercover Agents" came out at the time I was really struggling with social media and I felt understood thanks to the lyrics). It was absolutely terrific but a little bit too short and not enough interaction with the audience. I definitely want to catch them in a festival to hear them play their biggest hits. Especially since I fell in love all over again with old tunes I forgot about while prepping for the show, tunes including "We Can Breathe In Space", "Quelle Surprise" and other bangers from "Take It To The Skies" and "A Flash Flood Of Colour".

I See Stars - Ten Thousand Feet

Spotify sensed my love for emo and added this song to my Daily Mix and I absolutely L O V E it. It has this Asking Alexandria vibe and the teenage-like voice is everything. I feel grown up but like a teenager still. This song sure gives me moshpit envies, no matter my age.

While She Sleeps - Hurricane

More emo songs thanks to Spotify ! I mean the lyrics, the A7X voice plus that vintage Escape The Fate-like guitar line brings me back straight to 2006. Too bad the lyrics still speak to me ten years later.

Post Malone - rockstar ft. 21 Savage

I discovered that song on Spotify and immediately loved the vibe and the instrumental. I had no idea it was the biggest hit at the moment until I saw everybody using it on Instagram ha I'm so disconnected from mainstream music (says the girl who adds mainstream songs to her playlist). Plus I just found out the singer is a white dude. I pictured him more like Future in my head hahaha

OrelSan - Basique

Ok. Let's take one minute just to mention how astonishing this video is. And shoutout to whoever did this instrumental. Thank you Orelsan for making me shake my booty on such depressing lyrics. I miss Stromae.

Lomepal - Yeux Disent

French rap is dominated by white boys and their fragility really speak to my heart. I always said I like myself some white mama's boy who pretends he's from the hood...

Disiz - Menteur Menteuse

I told you last season that I fell in love with Disiz new album which many people disliked for some reason... This song was my go-to shower song. I almost used the lyrics to fill the legend of my Instagram pictures but I'm not that girl. Or am I ?

Corneille - Avec Classe

My interest in rediscovering French music led me to rekindle my love for French r'n'b like songs from Corneille. However, this video is wrong on so many levels. Hello street harassment ! So many videos glamorised this behavior back then...

Petit Biscuit - Sunset Lover (Clement Bazin Remix)

At some point I had to mourn summer and this was pretty useful. French electronic music never ceases to amaze me to be honest.

Mura Masa - Messy Love

Mourning summer is also easier with Mura Masa. But can summer come back now ? I'll keep playing this song, I swear !

Baba Stiltz - Baby

Another song for summer mourning. You're welcome.

Hans Zimmer - True Romance Main Theme

I watched True Romance last month. It was considered a cult 90s movie recommended by Vogue editors so I thought I would give it a shot as the TV shows I am watching are oh so boring. A what a movie it was ! The story is completely fucked up but the general vibe is so light. As light as this soundtrack which feels like spending Christmas somewhere exotic. Magical !

Clean Bandit - Rockabye ft. Sean Paul and Anne-Marie

I shazamed this song in Monki, Westfield Stratford, fitting rooms. Sean Paul is old and so am I.

Michael Jackson feat. Janet Jackson - Scream

Between Halloween and Zendaya looking like a Jackson sibling dressed in aluminum silver for In Style, I had to listen to that song in Fall. Also this videoclip is amazing: the dancing, the acting, the anger, the love between them too and the outfits !

Siouxsie And The Banshees - Cities in Dust

Speaking of Halloween... I discovered this song in one of Urban Outfitters' Halloween playlist and I feel like I missed on life not knowing this song nor this band before.

Lady Gaga - Heavy Metal Lover

I had this argument with my friends over the ranking of Lady Gaga's albums. Here's mine: 1. The Fame; 2. The Fame Monster; 3. ARTPOP. My friend said Born This Way was better than ARTPOP and I was like "na-ha". Born This Way has a few bangers - "Edge of Glory", "Government Hooker", "Americano", "Scheise", "You And I" - but the rest of the songs all sound the same or are pretty boring. But I did give another shot at Born This Way and now "Heavy Metal Lover" is one of my favorites. Still, ARTPOP is better than Born This Way. Period.

Miley Cyrus - Drive

At some point this season, I remembered how much I loved Bangerz when it came out and gave it another listen. This song is so 2013 it hurts.

DUA LIPA - New Rules

I know I'm late at catching this train, I saw Leanne's obsession with this song all summer long but you know how I am when things get overhyped... I'm now super hyped and danced my ass off to this song at my job's Christmas party ! I wish I had Dua Lipa to teach me these rules when boys were playing with me though. Good thing in the end that men are trash and I don't date or try to anymore.

AFI - 17 Crimes

Well... It's not completely true. Do not ask me why but few beers, few shots, and this AFI song I heard twice in my life managed to let down my guard. I'm weak. Especially since when Crashlove came out I absolutely despised it - and I still do - and this song plus its ridiculous video did not get me love. But I keep listening to it now. Maybe just to keep in touch with that night's feeling.

A$AP Rocky - L$D

Just hold me. I do not need beer or tequila shot to let down my guard with this track I rediscovered in an Urban Outfitters playlist. A$ap is not a very good looking guy but daaaamn that sex appeal. HOLD. ME.

Childish Gambino - Redbone

The first week-end after I moved back to London, I went to a screening of Get Out followed by a Q&A. I completely forgot that this song was in the movie. It makes me want to cook for my boyfriend on a cold winter Sunday morning and then cuddle under warm blankets. But I can't cook and I don't have a boyfriend so... I guess I'll just rewatch Donald's performance on The Tonight Show.

Talking Heads - Psycho Killer

For some reason, many people when I tell them I'm French instantaneously start singing this song. Is there an international urban legend that says you can pick up French girls by whispering "fa fa fa fa" in their ears ? Because, I mean, NO.

2017 Spotify year in music

My favorite artists were Enter Shikari (duh) Lady Gaga, Bring Me The Horizon, oh hello Avril Lavigne and frog prince Ed Sheeran. Favorite songs and I'm a proud are "Never Enough" by One Direction (my good mood song), "Supercharge" by Enter Shikari, "Touch" by Little Mix, "Rabble Rouser" by Enter Shikari; and Don Broco's "Everybody". Spotify says I listened to music for 42 271 minutes, played 4 283 songs by 2 037 different artists and even though it seems I'm into any kind of pop really I explored 51 different music genres. Who's the basic bitch now ?

PLAYLIST | SUMMER 2017

Fall has arrived ! Here's a look back to the songs I played most last season.

Don Broco - Everybody

I finally saw Don Broco live at Lollapalooza in Paris in July and boy... it was fire ! I ditched my dear friend to go in the moshpit at the end of the show. I love them even more now that I saw them live. And this clip is insane. I need to learn the dance routine haha

Rustie - After Light

I first heard about Rustie on Soundcloud. I thought he was a teenager doing sick music in his bedroom. Turns out he's pretty famous in his field. And this track is fire.

Dj Mehdi - Signatune (Thomas Bangalter Edit)

I love how you can definitely feel the "half of Daft Punk" sound in this track.

Disiz La Peste - Splash

The whole new album of French rapper Disiz La Peste is very good but "Splash" really stands out. Again, you can definitely feel that Stromae was producing the whole thing. Gosh, I miss him.

Flower Travellin' Band - Satori Pt 1

I think I read somewhere that the Flower Travellin' Band was one of Japan's first metal bands (please, tell me if I am wrong). Well, this track is a banger - perfect to sing under the shower tbh - and it has some vintage metal vibes that are more than welcome.

Ramones - Pet Semetary

So I discovered the Ramones age 25 in a Halloween playlist from Urban Outfitters. Can I get a Ramones t-shirt now ?

Drenge - Bloodsports

I read about Drenge in early September in an old magazine from uni in London. What a good surprise ! The guitars are so heavy ! It's good to have bands like these these days, not afraid to leave room for actual instruments in their songs. I recommend listening to their album "Undertow" and to play "Undertow" and "Favourite Son" as well.

Prides - Messiah

In this same uni magazine I also read about Prides and their use of synthesizers. And I loooooved "Are You Ready", the acoustic version is magical as well. But I lost it when I heard "Messiah". It feels so good to have this king of sound again. I feel lighter when I listen to Prides.
J'ai trop aimé "Are You Ready", la version acoustique est magique.

Wolf Alice - You're A Germ

If you love how 90s rock music sounded like, you'll love that song. And the horror genre fan that I am is delighted by this video clip.

Enter Shikari - Rabble Rouser

CAN WE ALL TAKE A MINUTE TO REMIND OURSELVES THAT ENTER SHIKARI IS RELEASING THEIR NEW ALBUM "THE SPARK" TODAY ?! Ok. Breathe Armelle. They mastered the art of teasing. Throughout summer they released "Live Outside" which will def get stuck in your head for hours, "Rabble Rouser" which I played a thousand time since last week, and yesterday "Undercover Agents" (available on Spotify) which almost made me cry when I first played it. I am SO PROUD of my babies.
EST-CE QU'ON PEUT TOUS PRENDRE UNE MINUTE POUR SE RAPPELER QU'AUJOURD'HUI SORT LE NOUVEL ALBUM D'ENTER SHIKARI "THE SPARK"?! Ok. Respire Armelle.

Harry Styles - Kiwi

I did not immediately listen to Harry Styles' album when it came out. I was afraid I wouldn't like it. But it's actually pretty rock'n'roll. I think if you're into Artic Monkeys you'll love his album. "Kiwi" sounds like something Alex Turner could sing. I also love "Woman" and "Only Angel" which I love the version featured on Harry Styles mini-film/documentary.

Frou Frou - Let Go

Ce son m'emporte vraiment loin...
This takes me very very far away...

Paramore - Hard Times

Paramore changed radically their style. This sounds NOTHING like "Misery Business" but I'm buying it. First because I missed Hayley's voice. Then because the lyrics are damn too real. And finally because I like shaking my ass to a song that deals with depression.

Denzel Curry - Ultimate

More than Hayley Williams' voice, I miss Vine. If you don't understand the link between this song and Vine, you can close this tab now. We're not friends.

Suzi Quatro - If You Can't Give Me Love

Well thank you Urban Outfitters for turning me into a bloody hipster digging old school country like 70s love songs. Like, after that I was down the road of this sound...

Dolly Parton - Jolene

Now we're talking.
Voilà, on y est.

The Game - Let Me Know (feat. Jeremih)

This is what I love most about music: realness. The Game and Jeremih came up with that song addressing police brutality one or two years ago and I just started listening to it recently. Just take a look at the lyrics. It's too damn painful for me to quote it here. Pay attention people, pay attention.

And that's it for me. See you next season.
Et c'est tout pour moi. On se voit en décembre.

INSPIRATION | AFROPUNK FESTIVAL BROOKLYN 2016

Last year, I was in awe when I saw how you guys liked my post about the AFROPUNK festival in New York, so I decided to write one as well this year.

Melanin, proud brothers and sisters, so inspiring... And so many easy to recreate styles: flower, butterflys, colored weaves, braids, dreadlocks... What a nice way to start December !

OUTFIT | JC/DC x MARVEL PANTS

I'm cleanin' out my closet ! Well, sort of. I'm just emptying for Macbook files. We shot that outfit with Syana ages ago. Because I am a professional procrastinator, I waited forever before taking a look at the pictures and sorting them out. So I hope this sleeveless outfit will remind you of our dear friend the sun that we may not see before a looooong time !
As usual, I bought clothes from the men section. This top is from Zara men. The pants I bought during private sales at Jean Charles de Castelbajac studio in Paris. He was there and I completely freaked out. They're from the JC/DC x Marvel collection and it was the last size 8 so they were basically calling me. Well, ok, I'll have to admit they are a bit tight and the zipper always lets me down but I love them so much !
Well, I am not a Marvel expert. I love Iron Man (like pretty much everybody). I like more the Tobey Maguire Spiderman than the Andrew Garfield one (even though Garfield is waaaay cuter). I laughed like twice maybe watching Captain America, the rest of the film was boring as fuck. Thor is pretty awesome (and it has nothing to do with Chris Hemsworth good looks). The Hulk was fine, especially the soundtrack. And I saw Deadpool in the flight back from Los Angeles to Paris. Boy, it sucked ! I can't believe everyone went nuts about this movie. It is not even funny just crude. The characters were oh so cliché but everyone is going to tell me it was on purpose. I like myself violent movies but that one was just not a good one. I only kept one watching because Morena Bacarin - whom I know from "Gotham" - was looking goooood !
Nope, did not see Antman.
Nope, did not see Avengers.
Nope, did not see Guardians of the Galaxy.
Just look at my pants bloody hell !
