PLAYLIST | WINTER 2017

I was travelling when we changed seasons so here's my delayed playlist of the tracks I played most this winter:

G-Eazy - Pick Me Up (ft. Anna of the North)

Ô G-Eazy I want to lick your face - wait what ? But I also want to listen to your music over and over again. Marry me. I don't do drugs.

Frank Ocean - Ivy

I took my time before listening to Frank Ocean's new stuff because I was kind of disappointed by the few tracks I heard but "Ivy" really stands out. Like, let's cuddle right !

Joey Purp - Girls @ (feat. Chance the Rapper)

Let's bring Spring already !

Mark Morrison - Return Of The Mack

1996. My brother had good taste in music, he used to have it on mixtapes. Kids these days will never get how 90s RnB was precious.

Gap Dream - Go Ahead

I just loved that vintage sound. I can totally picture a montage in a film with Brits from the 60s having fun on the beach !

Daryl Hall & John Oates - Maneater

And sometimes I just go full vintage and unearth bangers from before I was even born. With a video clip that lives up to the 80s.

Frida - I Know There's Something Going On

Speaking of 80s bangers from times before my existence, this Frida song is probably the tune I played most this winter. It is SO 80s it hurts. It's pop Joan Jett, I love the angst ! Also, this video is everything the 80s were about, that and the haircut and them eyebrows. I wish I could have this song on IV.

BAYNK - What You Need (ft. NÏKA)

This sounds exactly like something that could have been in Hollister's playlist. I have PTSD. Also, it sounds exactly like the music in H&M changing rooms.

BICEP - JUST

There is something about this track that is incredibly soothing and fills me with hope. I do not know why.

The xx - On Hold (Jamie xx Remix)

I am now convinced that Jamie XX is not a human being. He is something more. And this track takes me beyond infinity.

DJDS - Love Songs

For some reason I knew this song before I listened to it on Spotify. Is it a sample from another song ? Brains are weird.

Mija and Vindata - Better

I did not know about Mija until I read an article about her in Vice. She's the protégée of Skrillex but has this chill Californian vibe in her music I love. I would recommend listening to "Time Stops When I'm with You", different sound, more 90s.

Alice Glass - White Lies

Alice Glass sounds like Grimes on acid. I know Grimes already sounds like she's on acid. You get it. I just like how violent and cute at the same time this track is.

White Ring - Roses

This on the other hand is violent and creepy. It sounds like horror-Crystal Castles.

Nick Jonas - Chains

I shazamed this song in one of Shoreditch' hipster-est place and I am not ashamed. I was actually worried it might be Shawn Mendes or something. That drop tho !

Justin Bieber (feat. BloodPop®) - Friends

I mean if I can listen to Nick Jonas, who's gonna judge me for listening to The Biebs ?

Rihanna - Shut Up And Drive

I know it's old but the closer we got to our road trip in Florida, the more I had it stuck in my head. Also, I remember how I liked Rihanna's outfits in this video, this was me still being a bright emo kid, before it got all gloomy and dark.

Natasha Bedingfield - These Words

"Pocketful of Sunshine" is my "Easy A" song but that one is just a forgotten song from my childhood.

Spice Girls - Say You'll Be There

So I finally watched "Spice World" and here we are. This was my fav Spice Girls video back in the day.

Paris Hilton - Nothing In This World

I had no idea Paris Hilton's songs were actually quite good. They sound like what was Hillary Duff doing at the same time.

Russ - We Just Haven't Met Yet

Gosh, I thought Kanye West was done with rapping and took singing classes !

Tess - Dark But Beautiful

Easy pop song that brings us peacefully on the path of summer festivals !

Chairlift - Polymorphing

Good mood song for sunny Sundays warm at home !

Thee Oh Sees - Toe Cutter - Thumb Buster

Sometimes you just need heavy guitar to brighten up your day !

Biffy Clyro - Re-arrange

Biffy Clyro was performing at London's March 4 Women and did this song. We even got to talk to the singer behind the fence afterwards. Those blue eyes boy... Anyway, this song is so romantic. I thought Biffy Clyro was metal but it's sensitive af.

Lower Than Atlantis - Could Be Worse

Lower Than Atlantis was opening for Enter Shikari during their European tour and when they started playing I realized I knew a shit load of their songs but did not know it was them. Also, the frontman strangely reminds me of the guy I was madly in love with in high school (who also looks like Gerard Way to me, go figure) so I'm INTO Lower Than Atlantis now.

Don Broco - Come Out To LA

It seems like it is impossible for me to publish a playlist now without including my babies Don Broco. This one is kind of different because the main vocals are done by Matt and not Rob. And the video is amazing as usual kudos Terminator fans out there.

The Word Alive - Trapped

Am I a real emo now that I listen to The Word Alive ? Joke aside, I love the lyrics. I listened to "Misery" a lot as well.

I only knew one Asking Alexandria song which sounded very electronica/emo, this sounds completely different. I am intrigued now, I want to see them live.

I was just looking for outfits to upload in my Sims game and found myself scrolling on a website which had this iconic Metallica song playing in the background.

OUTFIT | THE METALLICA SHIRT QUEST

I discovered Metallica when I was 14 or maybe 13. Avril Lavigne covered one of their song and somehow I got intrigued to see what else this iconic band had to offer. I say iconic because on the radio, I kept hearing "Nothing Else Matters" which the anchor kept branding as iconic. And it is. Years after years, Metallica grew on me and I found to consider myself as a result as a fan. A what is a fan without a proper band t-shirt ?
I really hoped for a long time, I'd find one in a yard sale or a thrift shop, but it did not completely go as planned. In San Francisco last year, I did find many options in thrift shops but I tend to be super picky. I wanted it plain black, with just the "Metallica" sign in white on it. But all of them had various artworks on 'em that I did not really liked. Gosh, I already have so many tops with skulls on them, it has to stop.
Then Metallica came out with new stuff and the merch craze went bananas. You could basically find Metallica shirts e-ve-ry-where: H&M Divided, Bershka, Pull&Bear even Undiz, like come on guys ! So I was like "nu-uh I'm not buying that". Especially since they had a trademark line right under the logo which felt super off.
I ended up almost giving up with that ASOS man top in my wishlist and one day I decided to give it a shot. What do you think ? Weird right. Not sure I'm going to wear it again because I does not feel right. The quest for the Metallica shirt is still on.

J'ai découvert Metallica quand j'avais 13 ou 14 ans. Avril Lavigne avait repris une de leur chanson
et ça m'a intrigué. Je voulais en savoir davantage sur ce groupe emblématique. J'entendais toujours "Nothing Else Matters" sur Le Mouv' et l'animatrice disait toujours que ce groupe était légendaire. Et il l'est. Plus le temps passait, plus je tombais amoureuse de Metallica, jusqu'à me considérer aujourd'hui comme une fan. Mais suis-je vraiment fan si je n'ai pas de tee-shirt pour le prouver ?
J'ai espéré pendant longtemps en trouver un lors d'une brocante ou en friperie, mais tout ne s'est pas vraiment passé comme prévu. A San Francisco, j'en ai trouvé pas mal en friperie mais je suis super relou. Je voulais un tee-shirt noir avec uniquement le logo de Metallica en blanc dessus. Mais tous les tee-shirts que j'ai trouvé avait divers dessins dessus que je ne kiffais pas trop. Et puis bon, j'ai déjà trop de tee-shirt à tête de mort, il faut que je me calme.
Et puis ensuite, Metallica a sorti un nouvel album et ils étaient partout. On trouvait leur t-shirts chez H&M Divided, Bershka, Pull&Bear et même Undiz. Pour moi il était hors de question d'acheter ça. En plus c'était ridicule,
certains modèles avait carrément la phrase de copyright dessus, chelou.
J'allais abandonner quand ce top Asos man a fini dans ma wishlist. Un jour, j'ai craqué et j'ai tenté ma chance.
Qu'en pensez-vous ? Un peu bizarre non. Je ne suis pas sûre de le re-porter, je ne suis pas tout à fait à l'aise. On peut donc conclure que la recherche du tee-shirt Metallica parfait est toujours en cours.

Je suis la reine des insomnies. Le jet lag n'a rien arrangé à ça.

A song about insomnia for the queen of insomniacs. Jet-lag did not help as well.

Metallica - Enter Sandman

Impossible à cause de Jimmy Fallon de ré-écouter cette chanson de Metallica normalement. Mais en tout cas, il m'a donné envie de la ré-écouter.

Thank you Jimmy Fallon for ruining that song in some way ha but thanks for making me want to listen to it again.

Ne me jugez pas. 2016 aura été complètement sous le signe de Bring Me The Horizon. Et non je n'ai pas rêvé que je sortais avec Oli. Et non je n'ai pas passé des heures à regarder des interviews du groupe sur Youtube.

Do not judge me. 2016 was completely all about Bring Me The Horizon. Who said I dreamt about dating Oli ? Who said I spent hours on YouTube watching interviews of the band ?

Bracket - Fever

C'est une chanson que j'entendais tout le temps à la radio en vacances aux Antilles. A mon retour, elle m'a aidé à affronter la réalité des choses: les vacances c'est fini.

This is a song I heard everytime on the radio in the Caribbeans. When I came back from holidays, it helped me cope with reality: holidays were over.

Eugy - Dance For Me

Cette chanson passait aussi souvent à la radio aux Antilles, au début elle nous faisait beaucoup rire mais j'ai finalement succombé au rythme entêtant du morceau haha

Parce qu'un beau matin en vacances je me suis réveillée avec cette chanson en tête et impossible de ne pas la chanter à tue-tête !

J'ai découvert ce morceau dans la timeline de l'event Facebook du show de Zeds Dead et San Holo à Paris. Une pépite ! Et son show était une vraie dinguerie. C'est un artiste que je vais suivre de près !

Van Halen - Jump

"Jump" de Van Halen est un morceau que j'ai pas mal écouté pendant mon stage cet été. Alors naturellement, quand je me suis retrouvée demandeuse d'emploi en automne, je l'ai écouté encore plus pour essayé de me remonter le moral. Ca a pas trop marché.

Van Halen's "Jump" is a track I listened to a lot during my summer internship. So when I found myself unemployed in autumn, I listened to it even more to cheer me up. It did not work.

Bouga - Belsunce Breakdown

Punaise ça faisait des plombes que je cherchais ce morceau de mon enfance ! Et c'est par une nuit de jetlag que MCM a diffusé le clip au beau milieu de la nuit. MERCI.

I've been looking for this childhood track for ages ! And I saw the video going through channels randomly in the middle of the night when I was still jet-lagged.

Payday Monsanto - The Leprechauns

Deezer Flow parfois ça a vraiment du bon. Comme me faire découvrir ce son légèrement anxiogène avec des airs de Gorillaz. Je recommande.

Deezer Flow sometimes has it right. It made me discover this slightly anxiety-triggering track which sounds a bit like Gorillaz. I recommend it.

Sum 41 - Fake My Own Death

Sum 41 est de retour avec ce qui semble être un album dans la même lignée que "Chuck". Et au nom de tous les symboles de pop culture dans ce clip, juste, regardez-le !

Sum 41 is back with what seems to be a "Chuck"-like album. And please, because of all the pop culture references in it, watch the video.

Green Day - Say Goodbye

On ne vas pas se mentir, le retour de Green Day tombe à pic. On avait besoin d'un groupe politiquement engagé et incorrect pour faire un doigt d'honneur à la géopolitique actuelle, comme ils l'ont fait lors des AMAs. Leur nouvel album vaut largement le coup d'oeil d'oreille.

I'm not going to lie, Green Day's return came along just at the right time. We needed an unapologetic politically incorrect band to show the middle finger to the current geopolitics. Look what they did at the AMAs. Their new album is really worth listening to it.

Sniper feat. Sexion D'Assault - Blood Diamondz

En parlant de politiquement incorrect... J'ai toujours eu énormément de respect pour les textes de Sniper, et on peut penser ce qu'on veut de la Sexion D'Assaut mais certains de leurs textes méritent qu'on prenne le temps de se pencher dessus. Et merde, c'est quoi cette prod de malade !

Speaking of politically incorrect... I always had a lot of respect for Sniper's lyrics and people can say whatever they want about Sexion d'Assaut many of their lyrics are worth looking into them.

Thirteen Senses - Into The Fire

L'automne reste une saison pendant laquelle je suis psychologiquement éprouvée et extrêmement fragile. Alors j'écoute des sons comme celui-ci. Et parfois je pleure, un peu beaucoup, sans trop savoir pourquoi. Fragile.

Autumn is a season during which I feel psychologically tired and extremely vulnerable. So I listen to music like this. And sometimes, I cry, a lot, without being able to know why. I am weak.

Avril Lavigne - Give You What You Like

Je parlais donc de fragilité. Et quand je suis fragile, j'écoute aussi beaucoup Avril Lavigne. J'ai prêté une oreille attentive à ses albums "Goodbye Lullaby" et "Avril Lavigne" et j'ai trouvé quelques perles (qui me font presque regretter de ne 1. pas avoir d'amoureux; 2. pas traverser une énorme peine de coeur): "Falling Fast", "Wish You Were Here", "Hello Heartache", "Innocence" et "Rock'n'Roll".

Yes, I am weak. And when I feel this fragile, I listen to Avril Lavigne a lot as well. I listened with an attentive ear to her albums "Goodbye Lullaby" and "Avril Lavigne" and I found some treasures (which make me wish 1. I had a boyfriend; 2. I was going through a heartbreak): "Falling Fast", "Wish You Were Here", "Hello Heartache", "Innocence" and "Rock'n'Roll".

This is the ultimate crying track. It is more or less the same melody on repeat, and it makes you want to kill yourself. What kind of playlist am I doing ?

All Time Low - Take Cover

Bon du coup Deezer a fini par comprendre que j'étais une emo fragile et a commencé à me proposer d'écouter d'autres sons de fragile. D'où All Time Low.

In the end Deezer kind of understood I was a fragile emo and started to suggest more fragile songs. Including All Time Low ones.

A Skylit Drive - Crash Down (acoustic)

Sinon mon amour pour A Skylit Drive ne désemplit pas. Cette version acoustique est si douce à mes tympans...

In case anyone is interested, my love for A Skylit Drive is still pretty strong. This accoustic version is so soft to my ears...

AFI - White Offerings

La cerise sur le pompom de mon automne a été le loooong teasing d'AFI (mon groupe préféré de tous les temps pour ceux qui sont perdus dans leur tête) sur les réseaux sociaux pour finalement nous lâcher ces deux bombes là: "White Offerings" et "Snow Cat". Les deux derniers albums d'AFI ont été une vraie déception pour leurs fans - surtout les fans de "Sing The Sorrow" (l'album qui m'a sauvé la vie) et "Decemberunderground" (l'album qui m'a fait découvrir la vie). J'espère de tout mon coeur que ces deux morceaux signent un retour aux sources pour Davey et sa bande, même si on a tous pensé ça avec "I Hope You Suffer" qui était finalement le seul bon morceau d'un album vraiment moyen.

The cherry on the cake to my autumn was the looooong teasing from AFI (my favourite band ever for those lost in their minds) on social networks. They eventually dropped two bombs: "White Offerings" and "Snow Cat". AFI's last two albums were real deception for their fans - especially fans of "Sing The Sorrow" (the album that saved my life) and "Decemberunderground" (the album that made me discover life). I truly hope these two tracks mark AFI's return to its roots, even though that's what we all thought when "I Hope You Suffer" came out but the album was rubbish.

MZ - Les princes ft. Nekfeu

Il y a quelque chose de féerique, qui transporte un peu dans cette chanson. Le clip est bizarre et ça se la raconte de fou mais le morceau est vraiment stylé.

There is something magical about this song, it takes you somewhere. The video is weird and they are all so full of themselves but the track is lit.

Nekfeu - Jusqu'au Bout (Creed) ft. $-Crew

Encore Nekfeu oui. Ce morceau me fait beaucoup penser à Sniper, très certainement l'instru...

Nekfeu again. The instrumental of this track reminds me so much of the french rap group Sniper.

Calvin Harris - School

Ô mon Calvin... pourquoi ne montres-tu pas au monde quel bon DJ tu es en lui faisant écouter tes meilleurs morceaux ? Ces sonorités avec lesquels nous t'avons aimé et découvert et pas ces tubes commerciaux que tu ponds bien trop souvent ?

Ô Calvin... Why don't you show the world what a good DJ you are with putting in its ears your best tracks ? We discovered you and loved you with these sounds. Enough already with the commercial bullshit you serve us way too often.

FKA Twigs - In Time (Shadient Remix)

J'avais entendu ce remix du tube de FKA Twigs en attendant que Purity Ring monte sur scène à la Gaité Lyrique l'an dernier et j'ai donc mis un an pour le retrouver. Bien joué Armelle !

I heard this remix of FKA Twigs hit waiting for Purity Ring
